Sludge Dewatering Press

The Big Picture Holistic Approach to Sludge Dewatering...

What is a Sludge Dewatering Press?

Since this section is for general information and how it pertains to wastewater optimization there will be some redundant information as well as information you undoubtedly already know. If you just need to see some dewatering presses go here...

A sludge dewatering press is used for sludge dewatering, no surprise there, and as the name implies presses the sludge through some sort of filter.

How do Dewatering Presses Work?

The dewatering press physically squeezes the wastewater out of the sludge in some manner, either by pumping the sludge through filtered plates or by other means, for example, a screw press works by forcing the sludge through a rotating screw with a changing pitch that exerts greater and greater pressure on the sludge forcing out the waste water and then pushing the dewatered sludge out through a screen.

Belt presses squeeze the sludge through belts on rollers and may follow previous sludge dewatering steps. Rotary presses involve rotating screens within sludge moving down a channel eventually reducing the sludge or slurry to a drier sludge cake.

Rotary screens on the other hand aren't really dewatering presses because they spin using centrifugal forces to remove waste water rather than a squeezing action. Rotary screens may be used prior to sludge dewatering as part of liquid solids separation, or sometimes as a standalone liquid solids and dewatering step.

What's the Best Sludge Dewatering Press?

As is obvious, there are many types of dewatering presses and they all involve exerting pressure on or squeezing the sludge to get the wastewater out and at that point you hopefully have a dewatered cake that is lightweight and either reusable or easily disposed. Belt presses are designed for maximum sludge cake dryness.

There are belt filter presses, plate and frame presses, screw presses, rotary presses and others. The best one depends on your entire process and making a determination of what will give you the best results for your wastewater treatment process.
