Wastewater Treatment Basics Step 4
Optional Biological Wastewater Treatement May Be Needed
Biological Wastewater Systems Step
As mentioned at the start, there are biological wastewater treatment systems and processes for various municipal and agricultural industries that may preclude some of the industrial wastewater treatment steps discussed here.
However, not to complicate our basic discussion too much, biological wastewater treatment can sometimes be needed in other processes.
This can occur when your wastewater is high in soluble organics. In that case, usually a biological wastewater treatment process is appropriate.
Biological wastewater treatment steps can follow your prior liquid solids separation step, but not necessarily so. In some cases the biological treatment step may bypass other steps required for other types of wastewater treatment. For example, you likely won't be using a heavy metals removal process if you need biological wastewater treatment. It all depends on your specific process.

After any needed biological process applications you are ready for sludge dewatering. As mentioned earlier sludge dewatering is considered the final step in wastewater treatment for industries, though we added a Step 6 for further discussion.
