All About Flocculents & More

Flocculent

Well, we finally thought that it would be good to do a piece on the difference between a "flocculAnt" and "flocculEnt". Besides the fact that one word has an "A" and one has an "E" the former causes flocculation, the latter is what is left after flocculation.

What is Flocculent?

According to dictionary.com flocculent means:

-adjective

  1. like a clump or tuft of wool
  2. covered with a soft, woolly substance
  3. consisting of or containing loose woolly masses
  4. flocky
  5. Chemistry. consisting of flocs and floccules.; flocc(us) + -ulent

(Origin: 1790–1800, Related forms: flocculence, flocculency - noun, flocculently - adverb)

Flocculent Formed with Floccin™ High Powered Flocculating Agents or Flocculants

Obviously here we are using the chemical definition. But used as a noun in industrial terms typically, not as an adjective, and then simply shortened to "floc", the wooly solids formed during flocculation. The name "flocculent" comes from the wooly appearance of the floc.

So floc is flocculent floc, or wooly appearing clumped up former suspended solids, your floc or solids clumped up ready for dewatering. OK. Enough floc.

As opposed to the wastewater chemical flocculant, a flocculating agent used to cause flocculent to form, flocculent is the wooly solids. Yeah, it can get pretty floccing confusing.

Flocculents in Your Industrial Wastewater Treatment

You definitely want to be able to form flocculent extremely efficiently and expeditiously to keep your wastewater treatment systems humming along at maximum efficiency and profitability. This requires a high performance flocculant and flocculator or flocculators. (Another word with "floc" in it. "Flocculator" means equipment used to flocculate or for flocculation.)

Kick Start Your Flocculent Formation Process

As we covered in the flocculation page, if you can efficiently form flocculent, the higher your potential profits.

So you want to "kick start" your flocculent formation with a high powered proprietary flocculating agent created by experts who know what they are doing. It can be the difference between profit, and the undesirable alternative, or worse.

Flocculent Conclusion

Hopefully this clears up some of the confusion surrounding the two very similar but quite different words. Suffice to say both are used interchangeably and it's not that important, but certainly interesting...
