Meat Processing Plant Wastewater

Traditional Alum & Polymer versus Floccin 1106™

The wastewater is currently being treated using conventional chemistry (alum and a polymer).

The facility is paying surcharges due to levels of COD at 1,600 ppm and suspended solids TSS) at 500 ppm. The surcharge rates for the local POTW (Publicly Owned Treatment Works) are based on $0.42/lb for TSS and $0.18/lb. for COD. Based on their daily flow of 200,000 gpd, they pay a daily surcharge of $830/day.

Integrated Engineers was invited to test the Floccin™ to see if the surcharge rates could be reduced with improved BOD and TSS reduction using the Floccin™ products.

A 1,000ml beaker filled with the water sample was used to conduct the treatability.

The starting pH was recorded at 8.5. Floccin™ 1106 was used for testing, and mixed with 0.5 grams in the 1,000ml beaker containing the wastewater. Flocculation occurred after 30 seconds of mixing and after 3 minutes of continuous mixing, the jar was removed and the solids were allowed to settle.

The treated water was decanted and the results are shown in the photos below.

Grease Processing Facility Wastewater Treatability

Yellow & Brown Grease Processing for Biofuel

This facility takes in yellow and brown grease and processes it to recover the organics for biofuel.

The resulting wastewater generated is shown below on the left.

The pH quickly drops to 4.67 as the organics anaerobically decompose thereby dropping the pH.

Caustic was used to raise the pH to 6.4 and the addition of Floccin™ 909 produced the resulting jar as shown below right.

The dosage of the Floccin™ 909 was 2 grams/liter or 17 lbs/1,000 gallons. If more Floccin™ 909 were used, the water would become cleaner.

Tuna Processing & Protein Recovery Wastewater Case Study

Tuna Processing & Protein Recovery Wastewater Case Study – 99% Reduction in TSS – 91% BOD – 7.5% Protein Recovery

The water from a tuna processing facility was treated for solids reduction, BOD reduction and recovery of the protein from the high protein rendering sludge for reuse as animal feed.

The protein is very valuable for use in the animal food industry.

Currently the facility has no process for recovery of the protein and 100% of the high protein rendering sludge is disposed of at the local landfill, costing the company about $200,000 a year in sludge disposable fees without any ROI.

Tortilla Manufacturer Wastewater Case Study

Integrated Engineers, Inc. performed treatability on the water as shown below.  The dosage was quantified to be 4.17lbs of Floccin™ 1105 per 1,000 gallons treated.  The water was then run through analyticals testing which the results are shown below.

Constituent Untreated Treated % Reduction
Total Suspended Solids (TSS) 7,200 ppm 55 ppm 99%
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) 13,000 ppm 1,100 ppm 91%
Protein Recovery 0 ppm 12,000 ppm 7.5%

Tortilla Producer Wastewater

Tortilla Producer Wastewater Case Study

TSS Drops from 1,883 ppm to 14 ppm

This facility manufactures corn tortillas using a solution of Lye to peel the skin from the corn and soften the corn.

The pH of the sample was received at 13.80 indicating a high basic solution.

To minimize operating costs, CO2 was used to drop the pH down to 8.0 instead of using the traditional acid.

The high pH water required about 5 minutes of sparging with the CO2 in order to drop the pH. Floccin™ 1105 was added at a dosage of 2 grams/1,000 ml and the water quality is shown below.

The wastewater required about 3 minutes of intense mixing to obtain this water clarity. The untreated suspended solids was measured at 1,833 ppm and the treated sample was at 14 ppm.

Floccin™ Wastewater Treatment Technology in Seafood Processing

Coimex Applies Wastewater Treatment Technology in Seafood Processing

06/11/2010 14:45:4

Mr. Le Van Khang, Chairman of the Board of Condao Seaproducts and Import Export Joint Stock Company (COIMEX) stated that from early June 2010, the company developed new technology for wastewater treatment in Seafood Processing Factory 1, No. 335, Tran Phu, Vung Tau City.

Accordingly, Coimex built wastewater treatment processes and used Floccin™ products under the technology of Integrated Engineer Co., Ltd. (USA) by exclusive supply of THT Global Trade Co., Ltd. to remove odors, components of pollution.

Floccin™ is a new invention in waste water treatment technology, certified and appreciated for the water treatment capacity by the US Environment Protection Agency (EPA). Advantages of using Floccin™ is much reduced for the waste water treatment, waste, and waste water after treatment which are not classified as hazardous waste.

As per the initial recognition at Seafood Processing Factory 1, since applying this waste treatment process into production, waste water after treatment had no odor, disposal costs are also lower than with other treatment methods.

Currently, Coimex is executing procedures for requesting agencies to evaluate the quality of wastewater, exhaust gas after treatment.

Fish Processor Wastewater Treatability

“Treatability” is actually a noun that describes the ability of something “to treat” something. Makes sense when you look at the word broken down “treat+ability”.

Still in all, we mostly use it as an adjective, like “treatable”, to mean “able to be treated”.

The killer Floccin™ line of flocculating agents has fantastic treat ability. Water samples may be very treatable or may be not so treatable, usually with our flocculating agents problem water is rendered highly treatable.

This particular fish processor sample proved to be easily treated.

Fish Processor Case Study

Fish Processor Wastewater Treatability? VERY TREATABLE

The wastewater was received from a fish processing plant that utilizes water to float fish.

Jar testing revealed that Floccin™ 1106 as the most effective product for treating the wastewater. A 1,000 ml beaker filled with the water sample was used to conduct the treatability. 2 grams of Floccin™ 1106 were mixed in 1,000 ml of wastewater which equates to 16.7 lbs/1000 gallons.

The results are pictured below.

Wastewater Jar Test Results Fish Processor

Left: Untreated Wastewater Sample Right: Treated

The facility would like to reuse the water which will require post hydrocarbon removal and ozonation subsequent to Floccin treatment.
